On October 9, the lead tug of project NE038, “Svyatitel Luka,”
was launched at the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard (OSSZ)
in Petrozavodsk. This is stated in a message from FSUE “Rosmorport.”
The new ice‑class vessel is being built for the Azov‑Black Sea Basin Branch
of “Rosmorport.” The port tug will operate in the Azov‑Black Sea basin and
on inland waterways, and, if necessary, in other marine basins. The vessel is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026.
The tug is designed to assist in the mooring and berthing of large‑tonnage vessels, in sea towing of vessels and floating objects,
in delivering pilots and special personnel, in participating in oil spill response operations, and in setting up and removing floating warning marks.
The lead vessel of project NE038 is named after the Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea (Valentin Voyno‑Yasenetsky) – an outstanding surgeon,
scientist, and spiritual figure. In total, 3 tugboats will be built under project NE038 at the OSSZ. Currently, the Karelian shipbuilders are working
on the Baikal for the Sakhalin branch and the Monsoon for the Petropavlovsk branch, Rosmorport adds.
