On July 31, in Petrozavodsk, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Rosmorport”
received the vessels of the environmental fleet of project NE028 —
the oil and garbage collectors “MNMS‑Lebed” and “Eco‑1”, built at JSC
“Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant” (OSSP). This is stated in the
company’s message. The ceremony was attended by Georgy Ivanov, Deputy Director
for Fleet at the Northwestern Basin Branch, Artem Kurochkin, Deputy Director
for Operations at the Astrakhan Branch, and Vladimir Mayzus, Acting Director of JSC “OSSZ”.
The main tasks of the vessels for collecting oil and debris are to collect floating debris from the water and transport it,
as well as to collect water‑contaminated petroleum products (diesel fuel, heavy fuel, and oil). The new vessels will increase the readiness
of seaports for emergencies and will make it possible to eliminate the consequences of possible petroleum product spills more quickly.
Oil spill response vehicles are equipped with booms and means for deploying them around oil slicks. They will eliminate hydrocarbon contaminants using
neutralizing agents and a brush skimmer, which collects up to 120 cubic meters of oil sludge per hour from the water surface.
“It is particularly important to note that domestic equipment was predominantly used in the construction of the vessels,
which, combined with the high‑tech organization of production at the shipyard, made it possible to implement the project with
a high level of quality,” said Sergey Bazarny, Deputy General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport”.
The MNMS “Lebed” will be part of the fleet of the Astrakhan branch, and “Eco‑1” will be part of the fleet of the North‑Western Basin Branch of the enterprise.
In the near future, the vessels will be sent to the branches of the enterprise to ensure environmental safety in the waters of seaports. The MNMS “Lebed” will head
to the port of Astrakhan accompanied by the icebreaker “Avraamiy Zavenyagin”, which is heading to the branch to reinforce the icebreaking group during
the upcoming winter navigation period.
The NE028 oil and garbage collection vessels and boom deployment vessels are 15.5 m long and 6 m wide, and are equipped
with twin‑shaft diesel power plants. The power output of each engine is 118 kW.
The vessels can operate at seawater temperatures down to 0 degrees. In non‑Arctic seas, they can navigate
through thin, sparse ice up to 0.4 m thick, Rosmorport adds.
